[Sample] Letter To Tenant For Nonpayment Of Rent

A landlord sends a letter to a tenant for nonpayment to warn them of any past due or money outstanding due to non-payment of rent or other money owed.

The letter is intended to be an official message to the tenant, informing them that they owe money to the landlord and that the following letter will be an eviction notice or legal proceedings.

Sample 1 - Letter To Tenant For Nonpayment Of Rent

[Your Name]
[Your Address]
[City, State, Zip Code]

[DATE]

[Tenant’s Name]
[Tenant’s Address]
[City, State, Zip Code]

Dear [Tenant’s Name]:

This letter is to advise you that you have not paid the [$500] rent for the past two months as of the date of this letter.

On [DATE], you received a rent reminder notice informing you that you must pay your rent in full. A copy of this notice is enclosed. You have not paid any rent since that notice.

You have broken the terms of the lease agreement you signed on [DATE], which says that you must pay the rent by the fifth of each month. You owe me [$1000] as of the date of this letter.

I thus demand that you pay the above-mentioned amount or depart the premises within [5 working days] after receiving this letter. If you do not comply, I will be forced to file an eviction complaint against you. I’d appreciate it if you could help me out with this.

Sincerely,

Sample 2 - Letter To Tenant For Nonpayment Of Rent

[Name of Landlord]
[Address of Landlord]
[City, State, Zip Code]

[DATE]

[Name of Tenant]
[Address of Tenant]
[City, State, Zip Code]

Dear [Name of Tenant]:

This letter is to inform you that as of the date of this notice, I have not received your rental payment that was due on [DATE].

Because rent is due on the first of the month and will cover the rental unit for the dates of [DATE] through [DATE], you are living in a unit you have not paid for.

According to the terms of your rental agreement, found in section 2 of the lease, you can see that any rent payment not made within 5 days will accrue a late payment charge of [$50].

The rent for the [Name of Property] property is due and payable immediately or you will be evicted. You can mail the payment to [ADDRESS].

If you have any questions about this matter or have a special circumstance that I need to be made aware of, please contact me at [555-123-9709]. I look forward to hearing from you and resolving this matter.

Sincerely,
