Anyone that has worked a “normal” job can tell you that they often think about what life would be like if they quit. Most people never take the leap, and they continue working until they are ready to retire.
It is a scary thing to quit your job, especially when you constantly hear about increasing unemployment and the bad economy. Some jobs are just not worth the stress. Here are a couple of signs that you should look for when you want to quit your job:
Stress Levels
You should quit your job if your stress levels are through the roof. If you cannot handle the stress levels at your job, then you may want to look into finding another one. Stress can be unhealthy, and it can cause a lot of diseases down the road. You need to ask yourself if your high stress environment is worth it.
People are so concerned about having a job that they allow themselves to get ill from stress. People’s jobs often cause weight gain, depression and high blood pressure. Still, these people think that a steady paycheck is worth it. Keep your eyes open for new opportunities, especially if stress is starting to get to you.
No Family Time
The job market is tough right now, and many employers are taking advantage of people’s fears by forcing them to work long hours. If you do not have time to do anything but work, then it may be time to quit. If your employer is taking advantage of you because of the economy, then they probably do not deserve someone like you working there.
Try to work out your schedule with your employer. A good company will try to work with their employees, especially if they are not happy. If your company is not flexible, then it just might be time to quit.
Your Paycheck Can Not Cover Your Expenses
If you are working your hardest and not bringing in a good paycheck, you may do better somewhere else. Lots of companies are lowering employee pay because they know that the job market is bad. It is time to reevaluate your position if you are not making enough to cover your necessities.
This is also true if your company does not give you fair raises. Lots of businesses are cutting down employee pay by freezing raises. This is unfair, especially if you are a hard worker that does their job as best they can. If your present job cannot pay you a fair wage, then get out of there as soon as possible.
You Hate Your Coworkers
It is impossible to get along with everyone you work with at all times. Your coworkers become a problem when you cannot stand to be around anyone at work. This is an unhealthy environment, and can really wear on you and your sanity.
You Are Never Excited About Your Job
If you dread going into the office every day, then you should look into quitting your job. Most people can find at least something to look forward to during the day. If you can not find any reason to go into work, then the environment might not be for you.
When you passion goes away, your work suffers. If this is happening to you, then it is very possible that your boss may be looking for a reason to get rid of you!
The Company Is Going Under
If you feel that the company you work for is not doing well, then you are probably right. Go with your instincts and leave your job if you feel like the company won’t be there much longer. It is a lot easier to find a new job when you are employed. It is a lot less stressful than showing up at work and being told that the company is closed.
